It’s been a couple months since the Feds shutdown the notorious file sharing and uploading site, Megaupload. The site, which was available from 2005 to January 2012, is an online Hong Kong-based company that owned and operated the top 15 file hosting services on the internet. Although the site offered legal services of hosting files (similar to cloud servers), the website treaded in grey water when users began sharing their links with one another, which could contain any file type. Users could easily upload any legal or illegal files like music mp3s to bootleg movies and television shows and then share the link with an individual or the world by posting the link(s) to a blog.
The music, film and television industry has been struggling with online piracy for over a decade now. However, now that the Fed’s have shutdown the largest file sharing site for racketeering, will this send a message to the world that piracy will no longer be tolerated? Or is it just a matter of time before similar sites begin to spring up all over the web? With Megaupload’s profits in the several hundred millions, it’s just a matter of time.
To make matters worse, artists around the world have mixed feelings and loose ideas about file sharing. Just check out this strange music video produced by Megaupload and endorsed by artists like Kanye West, Puff Daddy, Will.i.am, Jamie Foxx, Kim Kardasian (Gee, I wonder why she likes sharing files), The Game, and many other high profile musicians and celebrities.
Free and easy distribution of content has helped propel new artists online who otherwise would not be able to afford the high costs of hosting their content. Not to mention, the hundreds of artists who produce mix tapes and share them on the web for free. And it’s not just hip hop, Pitchfork media (known for their music news related to the indie, alternative, and rock genres) gives away free music from artists every single day – which helps boosts the artists prevalence. Albiet, the files are hosted on their site, many argue that the idea and act of sharing files will never go away. The internet is the new tape recorder and until their is more sophisticated technology that protects copyrighted material, you can be certain that piracy will continue to thrive.
In addition, artists need to make up their mind. Do you want to give your content away for free and make profits in a new way (merchandise, sponsors, tours, etc.) or do you want to sell it? Maybe it’s a mixture of both. But as long as artists continue to send out mixed emotions on the topic, people will continue to benefit from all the confusion.
Here at Justice Solutions, we love the arts. Whether it be visual, audio, video or web, the arts move and inspire us. That’s why we enjoy going to the music and art festival, Coachella. The Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival (commonly known as Coachella, Coachellafest or Coachella Festival) is a multi-day annual music and arts festival, organized by Goldenvoice (a subsidiary of AEG Live) and held at the Empire Polo Club in Indio, California, in the Inland Empire’s Coachella Valley. The event features many genres of music including rock, indie, Hip Hop andelectronic music as well as large sculptural art. The event has several stages/tents set-up throughout the grounds, each playing live music continuously.
This year, Coachella has some of 2011′s top artists like grammy winner Bon Iver and beat master Dr. Dre and his partner in crime Snoop Dogg. Other popular acts include The Black Keys, Radiohead, Florence + the Machine, The Shins and many more. With so many high profile acts, it’s no wonder Coachella has gotten as huge as it has. Coachella has gotten so popular over the years that when tickets went on sale earlier this year, they sold out of all 150,000 plus tickets in just mere hours. We were lucky enough to score two tickets. So, here for you (especially those who weren’t able to get tickets) is our Coachella 2012 Wristband Package Unboxing video.
In effort to avoid counterfeit wristbands, Coachella has set up a registration process on their site. So if you are going to Coachella and have your tickets, be sure to visit Coachella.com to register your wristband.
Here at JusticeSolutionsLLC.com, we keep a close eye on Apple. They’ve been a non-stop success powerhouse for over the last past decade. They’ve changed our world with insanely great products. From the Apple 1 release in 1976 to the iPod in 2001, Apple has been dominating the computer market and turning customers to full fledged Apple enthusiasts.
Apple currently has more money than the United States government with over $75 billion dollars in the bank. Their stock just keeps going up and up and up. And now, with today’s announcement of the new iPad HD (on sale March 16, 2012), we can only assume Apple won’t be slowing down any time soon.
Apple is basically this generation’s General Electric. They’re going to be around, probably forever. How do we know this? Well, we don’t, but let’s look at the facts:
- They’ve put out world and industry changing products
- Quality products
- Strong brand
- Loyal customers
- And most importantly, vision
Vision is key to a successful business and Apple has lots of it. The rumors of future products boggle the mind from iTV to the Magic Glove. With so many future products in the pipeline, its only a matter of time before we get another world altering product like the iPhone – and a big pay day for investors.
